Payment Due Date

• There are no "grace periods". A due date is a due date.
• Payment must be received by the company on or before the due date
• Policies expire at 12:01am on the renewal date; therefore, payments should be made before the renewal date.
• What happens if you do not pay before the due date?
• You will owe late fees.
• Your policy may go into a late payment status and you must pay by a specified date in order to avoid cancellation.
• You may receive a double bill, placing your policy in late pay status and requiring complete payment by the next billing date.
• Your policy may be rewritten with a lapse in coverage.
• Your policy may cancel terminating your coverage.
• If your policy cancels, the company may agree to reinstate coverage with a "no loss statement", however, you will need to contact your agent if your policy has cancelled.

Consequences of Cancelled Coverage

• Coverage will cease to exist.
• Coverage may be forced placed on property insured by a mortgage company or a finance company at a higher rate.
• SC DMV will place a fine on vehicles if the coverage is removed from a vehicle that still has a valid license plate on the vehicle.

Consider Different Payment Methods

• Monthly Electronic Funds Transfer from your checking account or credit card.
• Semi Annual or Quarterly Payments. Some companies will also allow EFT for these payments.
• Annual payments. Some companies have a paid in full discount. (Paid in Full Discounts are only available to the insured not the mortgage company as it is a third party payor)

How You Can Decrease Your Premiums

• Pay your premium on time. Late payments incur late fees.
• Consider higher deductibles.
• Consult your agent before filing small claims as you may lose loss free discounts.
• Periodically have an insurance check up and discuss coverage and discounts available.
• Realize premiums are calculated by using statistics and consider the risk factors. The higher the risk, the higher the premium. (Youthful drivers will pay more to drive a sports car.)
